Some parts of the gas processing plant The Ghana National Gas Company, located at Atuabo in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, has announced a significant technical fault at its gas processing plant.The incident follows a complete failure of the Burner Management System (BMS) controller for the Heat Medium System (HMS) of the facility.The situation has resulted in an emergency shutdown of the plant, leading to power supply disruptions across parts of the country.This was contained in a statement issued by the company on Wednesday.According to the statement, preliminary assessments indicate that the affected system is severely damaged and will require a full replacement.“The unforeseen fault has forced an emergency shutdown of the plant, resulting in a temporary curtailment of gas supply to thermal power plants,” the statement noted.It added that, as a consequence, some regions are already experiencing power supply disruptions.The company assured the public that a comprehensive technical and safety risk assessment is currently underway to determine the most effective and secure approach to restoring operations within the shortest possible time.“A dedicated team of engineers is working diligently around the clock to replace the damaged system and expedite the restoration process,” the statement said.According to Ghana Gas, subject to the outcome of ongoing assessments, the plant will soon begin processes to restore operations.The statement added that the company will continue to provide timely updates as the situation evolves.“The public is kindly urged to bear with us during this period of disruption.
